Java games are a popular download on the Internet, but what is Java really. Java is a programming language that was meant to be used for the development of Java applets, little programs that can run in your Web browser independent of what hardware or operating systems you are running. Java was meant to change how web sites were going to be developed, but failed miserably in that area. Instead Java became almost the standard programming environment for general applications.

So why do we still call them Java games; most games developed in other programming languages such as Pascal or C are just called games, not Pascal games or C games. On of the reasons could be that you need to have the Java Virtual Machine (or JVM) installed to run these games. If you have a computer that is not a normal PC and such a JVM is available for your computer, the Java game will run on it while other games may not.
