How to make a copy from your own DVD movies is currently being rewritten. The new generation of 2 layer DVD burners with their bundled copy software makes burning and copying your own DVDs so easy, that a tutorial is really no longer needed, so we'll make more it a beginners guide.
If you still have a single layer burner, than the most popular software is DVDshrink, a free program that rips the content of a DVD and allows you to remove the extras and reduce the size of the menus, so you can burn the remainder on a single layer DVD. DVDshrink works together with a popular DVD creation program called Nero, but you should be able to burn the output files with any other program.
