How to start improving your link popularity.
So, you'd like to improve your ranking on the search engines to receive lots of free traffic, but you don't know where to start. If you have no links from other web sites at all, search engines won't find you and neither will people using those search engines. How many sites are linking to you is reflected in your page rank. So, start with downloading Google's search bar which shows the page rank of your and other sites.
Don't link to bad neighbourhoods
Be careful who you link to on the Internet. Search engines have been known to punish web sites, or even ban them, for bad Search Engine Promotion (SEO) practices. While a link from link farms, such as a Free For All links page, may not harm you (it may certainly not benefit you), a link from your page to that web site is dangerous. So, when you are not sure, don't link to it.
How to submit to search engines
Link exchange is one of the best ways to get listed on search engines like Google. And by getting many links from other web sites, so called back links, you will improve your site's traffic as well. You should use back links to get direct traffic from your link partners as well as to improve your ranking, but if you are just starting, your first objective should be to get your page rank up a bit. Find sites with a similar topic that are run by other web masters in a similar situation, or look for sites from friends or family. Anything, to get your page rank up, so it is no longer zero. Then, when your page rank is 2 or 3 you can become more selective.
