How to improve computer security.Improving computer security is an important but only small aspect of information security. Computer security involves mainly technical security measures to improve your systems security, but also includes backup strategies and intrusion detection. You don't have to be very technical, though, to be able to improve your computer security. Good computer security starts with a good awareness of what the risks are that you have to protect yourself against. Although it might look obvious that you should protect yourself against hackers on the Internet, you might reconsider when you find out the hard way that you should have concentrated on protecting your business data, or your digital photographs, from accidental change or deletion by your children first. And even a regular backup might not help if you did not detect such an accidental change until you need the changed files months or years later. The first step in any security plan is
therefore to analyse what your assets are that you want to protect and what to
protect them against. You will then often find that some common sense changes in
the use of your computer, or in how you store your data, is all that you need to
do to improve your computer security. |
